Week in Review

I have been thinking a lot about themes for this blog. Saturday seems like a perfect opportunity for me to review the week’s happenings in photos. This was my first full week with no employer! It’s very strange for me to put it that way, but I am adapting to a new “normal”.

I hope you all had a splendid week as well!

‘Twas a Lovely Sunday

Jer, Mason, and I joined Rob, Elisabeth, and Violet Bondar on a daytrip to Lake Geneva. I have always had a love affair with this place. My dad took my sisters and I there often when we were younger, whether it be to check out the lake from a boat, or to hang out while he worked at his booth in the Lake Geneva Antique Mall. Come to think of it, I don’t recall the last time I visited, and today was very enjoyable (despite the rain!)

We met up at the Bondar’s place this morning and stopped at Starbucks before hitting the road. It is only a 50 minute drive from where we live, but coffee is necessary for me any time I am going to be in a moving vehicle for more than a half hour! I can fall asleep standing up, you guys. ANYWAY, we arrived in Lake Geneva around noon, and after a quick snack, explored the trails along the lake. The homes that grace the lake are stunning! I am not joking when I say that the landscaping for these homes is probably more than my mortgage. I wondered aloud what Jer and I would even DO with ourselves if we had that kind of wealth. We laughed. Personally, I would hire a maid, a chef, and eat macaroons on a lounge chair in the sun but that’s JUST ME 😉 After all, there is always going to be someone who has something you do not have, and that’s ok!

It started to drizzle a bit (and Mason kept running ahead of everyone. He has Star Wars crocs that he insists on wearing- and NO, they are not shoes, mommy, they are CROCS- and he trips easily when running in them. That’s just what I need: for my child to trip over the edge of the path and fall into the lake. Woo-hoo, daytrippin’!), so we attempted to grab a late lunch at Popeye’s restaurant, but there was a 2 hour wait, so we ate at Sprecher’s instead. We treated ourselves to soft serve and candy afterwards. The next time we visit, we will have to ensure that there is time for shopping and boating.

It was a great day! Oh, and for any and all who were wondering.. Mason fell asleep before his head even hit the pillow!

37 Degrees Farehheit

Trust me, I am fully aware of the fact that 37 degrees is not warm. It may even be frigid to some. But to us Wisconsinites, pair 37 degrees with the fact that we have not had a day at that temperature in a week or so, as well as the fact that there is little to no wind, and you have the perfect weather in which to take a bundled-up walk!

So that is just what we did!

Being outside is definitely what I miss the most about the mild months when the bitter cold sets in. I love sweatpants, fleece blankets, and hot chocolate as much as the next person, don’t get me wrong, but who wouldn’t take sun and sweat over overcast skies any day?

Daddy and his best buddy.

That’s what I thought.

My sister Angela and I had planned a trip to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, to visit my dad for an extended weekend, but we decided to wait until February so that our other sister Charmaine could be there as well. It just isn’t the same when all of us sisters are not together laughing, having fun, and spending Dad’s money! New Smyrna is lovely and quaint. There are more exquisite shops than I know what to do with, and it is the perfect destination to enjoy Florida without all the crowds and parties. Dad had rented a condo on the beach for a month or two, but he won’t be staying there in February, so we will have to find a nice hotel before then. Please don’t ask me to explain what happened last year when we allowed Dad to pick out the hotel… the Rodeway Inn (Yes, RODEway, not ROADway).

Suffice it to say that I slept on my beach towel over the sheets. *shudder*.

Anyway, until then we will stay cozy in our little corner of the world, and embrace the cold-but-not-freezing days while we can.

Pure Happiness.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
