little lovelies

Happy Sunday All!

I hope everyone had a stress-free weekend! I took a personal day on Friday, and my sister Charmaine and I took Mason to the central library in downtown MKE. It is hands down my favorite library in the city, and the craziest part about it is how it has not changed a bit since my mom used to take my sisters and I there on weekday afternoons. The children’s room is way rad; not only is it filled to the brim with books but there is elevated window seating with pillows, a puppet theater, a lego table, a wooden Thomas the Train set (similar to the one Mason has at home) and a lighthouse that little ones can climb up and overlook the room. And all the preschool moms said “amen”.

After a morning at the gym, my sisters and I spent the majority of the day yesterday preparing for Mason’s birthday party, which is taking place this evening. We have plenty of balloons and Thomas the Train decorations to go around! And a 1/2 sheet chocolate cake. I’m not sure which excites me more: the cake, or the limes and ginger beer in the fridge ready to be made into delicious moscow mules. Or perhaps I am most excited for the crazy karaoke-ing tonight?? I’m getting off topic 🙂

Below are my picks from the past week for the “little lovelies” list. Enjoy!

  • Anthropologie is a death trap for my wallet. Plain and simple. Come on now with this cat jewelry dish.
  • I am a sucker for leather. My favorite pieces would be my leather leggings and bomber jacket, but I would love to add this dress to the list. It is edgy and feminine.
  • This is a gorgeous ring!
  • I am on a quest. A quest to drink more water. Strawberry, lime, and cucumber flavored water sounds amazing!

Have a great afternoon, friends! xo

We Call Him Mason

10:06am. March 9th 2012. My life changed forever.

photo 1

It was not a moment of intense joy. It wasn’t one of excitement. There were so many emotions coursing through my body, but I would say that the most prevailing were ones of nervousness. A nurse folded my freshly squeezed (haha) baby into a blanket and plopped him into my arms. I remember staring at him, and wondering if I was supposed to feel an overwhelming love for him. I was intrigued by his little nose and lips. The nurse handed me the tiniest bottle you ever did see, and I was afraid to even put it into his mouth. Was I supposed to be afraid of this itty bitty life in my arms? All I had to do was to make him not die, right?

People are not bullshitting you when they tell you will be more exhausted than you have ever been in your entire life. They are not joking when they say you will feel more emotions than you ever knew you had. They weren’t lying when they promised you would be grateful for help from family and friends, even if all that meant was rocking the babe to sleep while you washed sweat and tears out of your hair and brushed your teeth.

I remember mixing formula with warm water from the upstairs bathroom sink at 3am because I was too tired to even put glasses on my face to go downstairs to warm up water. I remember waking up crying in the middle of the night because I was sure he was not comfortable or warm enough in his little cocoon. I remember being afraid to be left alone with him when Jer went back to work after 10 days that felt like it had only been 10 minutes. They certainly weren’t kidding when they said your whole life would change.

And then it gets easier, just like they all promised.

I remember the first time he slept for 6 hours straight. I felt like I could literally take on the world. I remember how much he enjoyed spending time outside with me when it warmed up, and how taking him for walks in his stroller calmed me. I remember when he was finally able to support his own head- what a relief!! I remember looking back one day and wondering when the hell I became a natural at all this.

I know that 3 years is not a very long time. But I absolutely cannot imagine my life without Mason in it. I don’t even remember what I did with all that free time I had… drink, travel, sleep all day, party all night, spend money mindlessly, do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted, you know. I had the world in the palm of my hands, but I would not wish it all back if I could not have Mason. I wouldn’t change a thing. Not when he is peeing on the floor, or splashing through mud, or coloring on the wall, or pulling Lola’s tail, or throwing the monster of all temper tantrums. And not when he plays with my hair, or asks to make puzzles, or play with play-doh, or brushes my cheek with his hand, or snuggles up for nightly storytime, or sings “You are my Sunshine”.

So even though “that moment” was not one of a profound joy, even though I was scared and nervous and unsure of what I was actually doing, it was the best moment of my life, because it was the beginning of one of my most important roles in this lifetime: the role of Mommy.

I love you Mason Thomas. How very blessed I am to be your Mommy.

Happy Sunday, friends! I hope you all had a relaxing weekend, and to my local friends: how about that sunshine?! ♥ Every week I will be sharing a roundup of things that stood out to me online this week; be it a product, quote, website, photo, or basically anything else you can think of! Enjoy *

  1. This Kate Spade serving dish. Come on.
  2. Floating glass terrariums. I found these pretty ones on Etsy.. I would like to add some of these to my offices!
  • I have been on a spicy kick lately, thanks to Jimmy for messing up my sandwich order from Pita Pit last week and me actually liking the extra spice! These buffalo chicken wraps look wondrous…
  • HOBNAIL FOR DAYS. I am as obsessed with Hobnail as I am with Carnival Glass. I must have these.

* Have a good night, and a productive, blessed week! xo *

Winter Blues

winter blues

♥ 12 more days till Spring!! ♥

Hallelujah. Now, just because the calendar reads “first day of Spring” does not mean that we will suddenly be enveloped in warm breezes and tulips. Winter doesn’t release its clutches that quickly! Damn. I won’t put winter jackets and boots into storage just yet..

Yesterday Jer was working on a friend’s car in his t-shirt (didn’t personally think it was THAT warm..), and Mason ran around in the garage and driveway shrieking with joy. He is as sick of the enclosed house as I am, believe me. I will say though, that I am glad the sun has been shining lately, and the temperature hovers just above freezing, which is a BIG deal around here!

So, friends, be strong!! Spring is on its way! Read my thoughts below if you’re still feeling the need to beat the dreaded winter blues:

  • Challenge yourself. Jer, Mason, and I joined the Wisconsin Athletic Club at the beginning of the year. I challenged myself to attend as many zumba classes as I can, as well as work on upper body strength, cardio endurance, and toning my behind. It truly helps beat the chilly weather when I am hot, sweaty, and feeling good about myself! I also challenged myself to re-list items in my Etsy shop, Dear Amaryllis. The re-listing has begun! No time to mope about the temperature when I am keeping myself busy with researching and selling vintage wares!
  • Plan fun weekends. Even if it is just planning to head to the library, shopping with my sisters, or taking Mason somewhere fun like The Domes, I certainly don’t care what the weather is like outside if it is toasty warm inside!
  • Surround yourself with pops of color. It may seem silly but I bought almost every yellow thing I could find at Target last week: yellow frame, yellow planter, yellow cardigan, yellow towels, yellow toothbrush.. you get the idea. There is something about a bright color that has such a positive effect on my mood. I even find myself wearing colorful jewelry and tops to work. Take that, dirty snow on the side of the road.

What are you doing to stay sane during these last chilly months? xo

Life is a Song, Love is the Music

When I first met Jer, we were obsessed with staying up all night. One of the things I remember about those crazy nights is our radio stations on Pandora: Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, etc. I love these artist’s songs even more than I did before I met Jeremy because they remind me of him.

It’s interesting to me that every once in a while when I clean out my ipod to make room for new music, there are some songs that I grew tired of quickly, and some that stuck around since high school.
